Spaz Reviews: Blue Diablo - Ann Aguirre

Anyone who follows me on Twitter or has seen my previous reviews knows what a huge fan of Ann Aguirre I am. Her “Jax” series is one of my alltime favorites, and I love her writing as Ava Gray. So, it is understandable that my expectations for Blue Diablo, the first novel in her UF Corine Solomon series, were pretty high. I am pleased to say my expectations were met once again by Ms. Aguirre.

Spaz Has Her First Rant: Shadowfever

I know a lot of friend readers and bloggers adored this book, and I completely understand and respect that. Usually every book I read has at least some issues that are, to a varying degree, overlookable. The tragedy happens when the flaws for the reader overpower the attractions, and sadly, this is what happened for me with Shadowfever.

Spaz Reviews: Stocking Full of Coal - Amanda Feral

Wow. Just... wow. This is my first Amanda Feral experience and I have to say that I have to read all her books now.
Justine Crenshaw is accident-prone. Wellll, at least to the outside person she appears to be accident-prone. What is really going on is a bit more complex that that. Justine feels compelled to bruise herself intentionally. You might be familiar with a phenomenon called "cutting" in which someone feels release or relief from the injury they inflict upon themselves. Amanda's obsession with bruising to me felt along the same lines and I found her pathology fascinating!

Spaz Reviews: Firewalker - Allyson James

Stormwalker is the first book in Allyson James's new Stormwalker series and it was such a pleasant surprise! I was hooked from the first page. The book and series follow Janet Begay, a Half Navajo Stormwalker, who has special abilities and powers tied with the constant storms that move past her small town. She controls the elements that make up storms: lightning, rain, flooding, a power that can overwhelm her without the help of her former boyfriend, Mick, who is able to ground her. She finds herself in Magellan, AZ renovating an old hotel near the Navajo Nation where she was raised. She moved to the small town to assist in the investigation of the disappearance of the Police Chief's daughter. Things start to go really wonky when her ex boyfriend Mick finds her, her mother (the goddess of Beneath) continues to entice her to join her evil forces, and the mystery of the PC's daughter's disappearance unravels.

WLP & Spaz Go To Philly for Authors After Dark 2011!

It's official! Nat (Wicked Lil Pixie) and me are bringing Toronto and ATX to Philly for Authors After Dark August 11-14! Who is the Master of Ceremonies? Larissa freaking Ione!!!
Together Nat & I will be on a panel together with Mandi of Smexy Books, Julie aka Minky & the wonderfully evil authors Carolyn Crane & Nicole Peeler. Have I mentioned that CC and NP are two of my favorite authors of 2010? And that Mandi is one of my all-time favorite book bloggers? I am really freaking out, but super excited! At least I don't have to be on three panels like Nat does *giggle*! Here is the description of the panel we are on:
Beyond Reviewing - blogger/author relationships

Carolyn Crane, Nicole Peeler, Nat (Wicked Lil Pixie), Pam (Spaz), Mandi (Smexy Books), Julie (Minxy)

Bloggers and authors go through similar career cycles - from newbie to midlist to established. How can authors and bloggers support each other to grow and gain audiences? What is the best way for authors and bloggers to approach each other at different points in their careers? How can authors and bloggers work together on out-of-the-box events and features? What do bloggers really need when? What do authors need when? This workshop is designed to give authors and bloggers new insights about each other. It doesn't focus on reviews, but rather, the endless and excellent possibilities in the author blogger relationship.
All that's left now is putting together a Steampunk costume for the Steam Ball, and booking our flights. OMG this is really happening! And above all else I am so beyond excited to meet all the book bloggers I have come to know and love who will be there as well!

Nat has the full panel list here! AAD Panel List: Pixie and Spaz Are In The House!

New Cover Alert! ShadowFlame (The Shadow World book 2) - Dianne Sylvan

I am usually on top of new covers from my favorite authors, but somehow I missed this one! Dianne Sylvan's latest novel of The Shadow World is up with a cover and blurb! If you haven't read the first book in the series, Queen of Shadows, you MUST READ IT! I reviewed it over at WLP.

ShadowFlame, book two in The Shadow World series - Coming July 26, 2011 from Ace Urban Fantasy - From the Back Cover:
It’s been three months since musician Miranda Grey became a vampire and married David Solomon, Prime of the South. As Queen, Miranda must quickly come to terms with her new role and learn how to negotiate the treacherous waters of Signet politics, inevitably making dangerous enemies along the way. As if complicated vampire politics and a rising music career weren’t enough, an enigmatic but powerful force from David’s past appears, leaving a wake of chaos and uncertainty for the Pair’s fledgling relationship. Miranda begins to realize how little she really knows about her husband. But when an assassin begins targeting her friends and allies, the Pair must track down the killer, even as their lives hang in the balance…
