Announcement: It's a GIRL!!!

We had our 20 week anatomical scan ultrasound on Thursday, and were excited to learn that it's a GIRL!!! The DR said everything looks really good!! *deep sigh of relief*
We got to see the chambers of her heart, and her brain, and her face, and her hands with her fingers and her feet with her toes, and her kidneys, and her spine - all of it. I was sooooo happy to see her again, since the last time we'd gotten to see her was at the 11 week NT scan. Gah!!! I've been feeling her move around and tap dance for about two weeks now, so to see her again was so awesome. I can sincerely say that neither of us had a strong preference for either a girl or a boy, we just wanted to know she was healthy. I could do cartwheels right now, I'm so happy to learn that everything looks good and we no longer have to call her an "it"!!!"It"'s a SHE!
The two round dots to the right of the image are her pelvic bones, & the round dot below the "I'm a Girl"  is indicating her labia.
More ultrasound pics!

My Top 5 April "Can't Wait For!" Books

Bronze Gods (Apparatus Infernum #1) - A.A. Aguirre
April 30th
This first book in a new series by one of my favorite authors, Ann Aguirre, AND her husband, is definitely on my list of must-reads. I am very picky with what Steampunk I will read, but this is a no-brainer.
Read an excerpt here
Hy Breasil is grimmer than it used to be.
Before the Architect closed the door, there were regular crossings, and a great war decimated both humans and Ferishers. The native fae who refused to treat with the invaders faded; their bodies withered and died, stranding them as hungry, angry spirits that haunt the countryside.
That means there’s always trouble brewing in Dorstaad.
Janus Mikani and Celeste Ritsuko work for the Criminal Investigation Department, keeping citizens safe from things that go bump in the night. He’s a hardboiled cynic with an uncanny sixth sense; she’s determined to justify her promotion as the first female detective in her division. Together, they’re trying to keep a black tide from drowning the city.
But when the second body surfaces, murdered with the same type of infernal device, the entire CID must face the truth. There’s a madman on the loose, twining magic and blood… and only Mikani and Ritsuko can unravel the intricate, lethal conspiracy before the Royale killer completes his macabre plan, unleashing old, forbidden magic on an unsuspecting populace. If the maniac succeeds, it could mean the end of everything…

Touch & Geaux (Cut & Run #7) - Abigail Roux
April 8th
The teasers Abigail Roux has been torturing us with on Tumblr and Twitter has been brutal, and you better believe I am diving right in to this one the minute it releases! TY <3 One of my FAVORITE fictional couples of all time. If you are going to try m/m, choose this series. It's brilliant.
After having their faces plastered across the news during a high-profile case, FBI Special Agents Ty Grady and Zane Garrett have become more useful to the Bureau posing for photo ops than working undercover. Just as Zane is beginning to consider retirement a viable option, Ty receives a distress call from a friend, leading them to a city rife with echoes from the past.
New Orleans wears its history on its streets, and it’s the one place Ty’s face could get him killed. Surrounded by trouble as soon as they land, Ty and Zane are swiftly confronted with a past from which Ty can’t hide—one with a surprising connection to Zane’s.
As threats close in from all directions, both men must come to terms with the lives they’ve led and the lies they’ve told. They soon discover that not all their secrets are out yet, and nothing lasts forever.

Rising Darkness (Game of Shadows #1) - Thea Harrison
April 2nd
Another new series by one of my favorite authors, I can't wait to see what Thea Harrison has cooked up for us in this!
In the hospital ER where she works, Mary is used to chaos. But lately, every aspect of her life seems adrift. She’s feeling disconnected from herself. Voices appear in her head. And the vivid, disturbing dreams she’s had all her life are becoming more intense. Then she meets Michael. He’s handsome, enigmatic and knows more than he can say. In his company, she slowly remembers the truth about herself…
Thousands of years ago, there were eight of them. The one called the Deceiver came to destroy the world, and the other seven followed to stop him. Reincarnated over and over, they carry on—and Mary finds herself drawn into the battle once again. And the more she learns, the more she realizes that Michael will go to any lengths to destroy the Deceiver.
Then she remembers who killed her during her last life, nine hundred years ago…Michael.

Oath Bound (Unbound #3) - Rachel Vincent
April 30th
I loooove this author, and I loooove this series, so I am super excited for this third book in the Unbound series!
The Tower Syndicate will fall...
The secret daughter of the head of an infamous Skilled crime family, Sera Brandt has hidden her past, her potential and especially her powers. But when a tragedy strikes her other family, Sera needs justice. And the only way to get it is to reveal her heritage–including a rare Skill–and take the reins of the Tower Syndicate from her cunning and malicious aunt.
If he can figure out how...
Kristopher Daniels might have the answer. He's fought the syndicate to protect his sisters, but he'd never realized just how close to the new heir he needed to get....
And if they can survive
Neither is used to trusting. But there's something between them that can't be ignored. And so Sera is on the run with a man she can't figure out, a target on her back and the new knowledge of just how powerful she really is....

Tempest (MetaWars #3) - Kelly Meding
April 22nd
This series, and author, keeps me on my toes and I anticipate this third book in the MetaWars series will be no exception.
The public doesn't trust them. The government wants to control them. Being a superhero has never been this hard, especially for Tempest.
Two months after the discovery of the powerful, non-Meta Recombinants, the former Rangers—Meta-powered humans dedicated to preserving the peace—have made no progress in uncovering the newcomers' origins, or convincing the public to trust them. Newly powered Metas are popping up and causing trouble, while the former Banes—Metas who harm humans and create chaos—show no inclination that they even want to leave the island prison of Manhattan. With a presidential election looming, the hot political debate is all about Meta rights—and whether they deserve to have any.
Still haunted by the murder of so many in the Meta War fifteen years earlier, Ethan "Tempest" Swift accepts an assignment in Manhattan, working with a team that's interviewing Banes to determine which are still threats and which have reformed. But Ethan has a personal reason for going to the island as well. Armed with questions for the Bane who just might be his father, Ethan's quest for answers is interrupted by an unexpected assault on the island. Forced to side with old enemies to uncover who's responsible for the devastating attack, Ethan begins to question more than just his past—he questions his place in defending a world that sees him as its enemy.

So, are you excited over any of these as well? What are your top Can't Wait For books for April?!

My Top 5 Urban Fantasy Picks for March

Not only is this post super exciting to put together, because these are books I feel like I've been waiting forever for; but also, the covers are all freakin' gorgeous! Squeeee! Here are my top 5 Urban Fantasy picks for March, which I never thought would finally get here. Basically, every book in this post belongs to a series that you MUST be reading if you are an Urban Fantasy fan. These are literally all new releases of some of my most favorite UF series. I AM SO EXCITED.

March 5th

Crave the Darkness (Shaede Assassin #3) by Amanda Bonilla
This series has been a favorite of mine from the very start. I cannot wait to pick back up where we left off with the last book. I need more Tyler. Please make him okay...
Nothing comes easy for Darian. Her heightened powers make her indispensable to the Shaede Nation, but dangerous missions have driven her lover, Tyler, to his breaking point. Darian must salvage their bond, but a new assignment to protect Anya—a fellow Shaede and the first of their kind to become pregnant in centuries—stands in their way.

It doesn’t help that the two Shaedes are longtime rivals and share nothing besides mutual hatred. But when it becomes clear that someone—or something—is bent on destroying the expectant mother and her unborn child, Darian must put her feelings aside and track down Anya’s would-be assassin.

As she probes into Anya’s past, Darian digs up long-buried secrets—and a connection between Tyler and the mission that could destroy everything between them…

Frost Burned (Mercy Thompson #7) by Patricia Briggs
Another of my ultimate favorite series and one of my very first introductions to the Urban Fantasy world. We also get two full chapters from Adam's POV!! I love the direction this series is heading in.
Shapeshifter Mercy Thompson's life is calming down, at least enough that she can focus on mundane matters like Black Friday sales. But on her return, Mercy is unable to contact her mate, Alpha Adam Hauptman, or the other members of their pack. All she knows is that Adam is angry and in pain. With the werewolves fighting a political battle to gain acceptance from the public, Mercy fears Adam's disappearance may be related - and that he and the pack are in serious danger. Outclassed and on her own, Mercy may be forced to seek assistance from the most unlikely of allies: the vampire seethe.

Agave Kiss (Corine Solomon #5) by Ann Aguirre
ANOTHER one of my most favorite series, and this is THE END. Yes! Another Ann Aguirre series has come to its end. So bittersweet!
Chance was gone; he’d sacrificed himself so Shannon and I could escape Sheol. We’d raised him on Shan’s spirit radio, which meant his soul wasn’t wholly destroyed by the demon gate….

Once Corine Solomon only had the touch—the ability to read an object’s past by handling it. Then she inherited her mother’s magick, and that ended up being a hell of a burden. But if Corine can wrestle a demon queen and win, she can bring back her lover Chance after he’s made the ultimate sacrifice. Can’t she? All Corine knows is that she can’t leave Chance behind if there’s anything she can do about it.

But the clock is ticking—and she still has to deal with debt-collecting demons and a maniacal archangel who’s running a recruitment drive. The stakes have never been so high…and this time it’s truly Corine’s last chance to save the love of her life.

March 26th

Of Shadow Born (Shadow World #4) by Dianne Sylvan
Dianne Sylvan is not afraid to take risks. I love that about this series, no matter how uncomfortable these books have made me at times, they are super well-written, and yep, here lies yet ANOTHER one of my favorite Urban Fantasy series.
Spread throughout the dark corners of our world lies the Shadow World, a society of vampires who feed off the living. In Austin, Texas, one woman must rise from the ashes of tragedy and confront an ancient evil before it destroys everything she holds dear…

After a heartrending night of loss and blood, Miranda Grey-Solomon, vampire Queen of the South, now stands in the ruins of her life determined to pick up the pieces and move on. David, her husband and Prime, is missing and presumed dead, and Miranda is lost without her soul mate by her side…But she has little time to grieve as enemies both old and new emerge to test her yet again.

Between vampires trying to take advantage of a Queen without a Prime, incursions by a mysterious organization of humans calling themselves the Order of the Morningstar, and the continuing threat from those within the Shadow World who have already tried to destroy her, Miranda and her allies are running out of places to turn. In order to save her territory and the ones she loves, Miranda must look to the ancient past, to the first days of the vampire race, and uncover secrets about the Signets that could change the course of history…

Deadly Sting (Elemental Assassin #8) by Jennifer Estep
Surprise!! Yet ANOTHER FAVORITE UF HEROINE, right here, in Gin Blanco. This series kicks ass and no matter how painful it is right now to endure what Gin is going through, the action is definitely not lacking.
Red is definitely my color. Good thing, because in my line of work, I end up wearing it a lot.

Most people shy away from blood, but for an assassin like me — Gin Blanco, aka the Spider — it’s just part of the job. Still, it would be nice to get a night off, especially when I’m attending the biggest gala event of the summer at Briartop, Ashland’s fanciest art museum. But it’s just not meant to be. For this exhibition of my late nemesis’ priceless possessions is not only the place to be seen, but the place to be robbed and taken hostage at gunpoint as well. No sooner did I get my champagne than a bunch of the unluckiest thieves ever burst into the museum and started looting the place.

Unlucky why? Because I brought along a couple of knives in addition to my killer dress. Add these to my Ice and Stone magic, and nothing makes me happier than showing the bad guys why red really is my color.

So tell me, what books are YOU looking forward to in March?!

Announcement: We're Having a Baby!

Keeping this on the down-low for the past 2+ months has been agonnnyyyyy, but I'm finally knocking at the 2nd trimester door and we are ready to share the news! I'm pregnant with our first child, at 12 weeks!
8 weeks: upside down kinda, with lil nubs for legs & arms, facing forward :)
Me and my husband had our first visual introduction with him or her at 8 weeks, and we discovered that we had a "wonderfully-placed" gummy bear, with a "super strong heartbeat". We got to see its heart flutter, and its spine.

We got to see our baby a second time at 11 weeks, 4 days for the 1st NT scan. Oh my gosh, not such a gummy bear anymore. We listened to its heartbeat, and then it started waving its arms and kicking its legs for us! It also flipped around a few times. Then it got shy and chilled out for a bit. We could not believe how much it had grown in 3.5 weeks. It was truly amazing to see!
11w4d: side view, after waving its arms and kicking its legs, it flipped over for us :)
And that's where we're at! For those curious, I had some queasiness and nausea during weeks 5-9, and again at 11 weeks, making it super hard not to spill the beans to people, because I wanted to complain and whine, hello! I had no major issues during the 1st trimester, just had crazy fatigue, and weird smell issues revolving around food aversions (OMG, WHAT IS HUBS COOKING!!! *sobs* and now I need a nap, I'll just be over here sleepi... zzzz), which I know I know, is normal. I've still been able to workout and do all the same fitness activities I love, for the most part, which the Dr. has encouraged. Is it possible to feel high from hormones? Because that is how I feel, frequently. So happy I can't breathe at times. I hope to continue this journey as smoothly as possible. *crosses fingers* Thanks for letting us share our exciting news with you! The due date is predicted as August 26, 2013.

Spaz ARC Reviews: Winterblaze by Kristen Callihan

My latest ARC guest review of Winterblaze by Kristen Callihan is up at WLP
This is a spoiler free review. With Winterblaze, Kristen Callihan brings us the third book in her Darkest Lodon series. You've seen me here before, gushing over these books. We are already quite familiar with the heroine Poppy Ellis Lane and hero Winston Lane from the events in the two previous books Firelight and Moonglow. They always seemed like the solid couple that nothing could come between, but when Winston is torn apart by a supernatural being and learns that for the past fourteen years of their marriage, Poppy has kept a giant secret, he drops her on her butt. Learning that she not only had a place in the supernatural world, but is also a part in The Society for the Suppression of Supernaturals, sends him packing his bags. Continue reading...

Spaz Reviews: Painted Faces by L.H. Cosway

My latest guest review of Painted Faces by L.H. Cosway is up at WLP.
If you are like me, an avid romance reader of all sub-genres, sometimes you find yourself in a place of "every single book feels like I have read it before." Sound familiar? So when I saw a review of Painted Faces at Smexy Books, my interest was peeked after skimming it. When I finished the book, I wanted to talk to everyone about it because it left me with such a deep feeling of satisfaction, and left me wanting more. From the start, I felt heavily invested in both the characters, and the story. The premise is entirely unique. This is a m/f romance, but the male is a straight drag queen. It is equal parts funny and sexy, and yes, romantic. Continue reading...

In Memory of Dakota ~ A Photo Tribute: 2002-2012

A Note: When we learned this time last year that our time with Dakota would soon be coming to an end, I was able to distract myself from the grief by compiling these memories in this photo post. As a former cat person, he was my first dog, and thanks to the invention of the digital camera, I thankfully have so many pictures of him to share.
As the months passed and he went in to remission earlier in the year, I was grateful that this post below eventually just became an aged draft. Then, last month, his lymphoma returned.
Putting this post together was very healing for me, and I am so glad that I did it while I still had him in my life. I'm not sure I could have done this after losing him.
Thank you for letting us share with you how much he is cherished.
- Pamela, Matthew, & Tex

Dakota Bear
May 2002 - November 2012
Beloved First Dog

After 2 battles with lymphoma, and an unsuccessful try at chemo, we said goodbye to our D this weekend.
This is a photo tribute to the most loved lil doggy in the world.

First day I picked D out from a stray litter in May 2002.
D insisted on hugs from my mom when she visited. Resistance was futile.
D loved to run and run and run at the Far West dog park.
D & his puppyhood BFF Lila, sitting in Beanie the cat's window seat.
Kayaking at Town Lake/Lady Bird Lake.
I only dressed him up for Halloween once! And he was so patient with me :P
After being bitten several times growing up, Dad was always scared of  dogs.
Dakota helped him with that fear.
Beanie the cat didn't love many, but she would share a sun spot with D.
D loved to spend time with his rescue litter bro, Grady (on left).
When we adopted Tex in 2008, he instantly became Dakota's shadow.
And they both shared hugs quite nicely. ((puppy pile!!))

Dakota & Tex: Partners In Crime and Cuddling.
Dakota always knew when we needed a hug.
Grateful to have Thanksgiving 2011 with D, after his first bout of lymphoma.
R.I.P. Dakota, May you have ALL THE TENNIS BALLS in your afterlife.
We love you and miss you so much!

Thank you for letting us share with you how much he was loved.

If you are inclined, please consider making a donation to one of our favorite local dog rescue groups here in Austin, TX: Blue Dog Rescue. I have run the Austin Half Marathon and Full Marathon for Blue Dog Rescue, and passionately believe in everything they do. We hope that in time, will be ready to open our home and hearts to another rescue.

Spaz Reviews: The Shifting Price of Prey by Suzanne McLeod

I am guest reviewing The Shifting Price of Prey by Suzanne McLeod at WLP!

In this fourth Spellcrackers.com novel, we meet back up with Genny in the wonderful supernatural London that Suzanne McLeod has created for us. The stakes are raised higher than ever, as we learn more about Malik al-Khan's backstory, and my own expectations of this fourth book were just as high. I squealed with delight, because The Shifting Price of Prey totally delivers.
With the Carnival Fantastique in town, Ms. McLeod introduces a terribly interesting and unique storyline to an already multi-layered Urban Fantasy London setting. Genny quickly learns that the fae just can't help themselves, their entire future is still in jeopardy with the Fertility Curse, and Geneveieve is their only hope. Just as always, she takes on the responsibility, steps right up to her duties, and sets out to get to the bottom of what this mysterious Emperor has to do with the recent magical kidnappings. Of course you throw in the Vampires to the mix, and there is nothing but sweet and glorious drama from start to finish, with some crazy family trees, to boot. Continue reading...

Bummer News - Update on Dakota

I wasn't going to write about this, but the more time it takes me to digest the news, the more I feel like I just want to share what's going on. I tweeted about it, and have almost said something on Facebook, but just can't. I have a weird relationship with Facebook, but my blog! I have my blog to write about whatever I want to, so here I go. Dakota's lymphoma is back, and it's aggressive.
Many of you might remember our dog Dakota getting a lymphoma diagnosis this time last year. You've been there with us as he's responded well to the prednisone, and we've had all this stolen time together.

Two weeks ago, Dakota stopped eating his food. At first, it seemed like he was just being picky. He'd not be interested in it at all initially, but then an hour late he'd scarf it down like he was starving. Then it started progressing to where he'd miss entire meals, and it wasn't getting better. On Wednesday, we took him in and the vet diagnosed him with colitis and anemia, and he'd lost 7 lbs since July. We had caught him going to town on some mushrooms outside after the rains, before we could get rid of them, so it made sense. His red blood cells were low, too, so we bought him all this special canned food and put him on antibiotics and de-wormers and probiotics to treat him. We were asked to bring him in on Friday for a follow-up. He was at least eating the canned food, but had terrible diarrhea, which the vet said should not be a side effect of his meds. If anything the meds should be preventing diarrhea. They note that his red blood cell count has only improved by one point, and ask us to come in again for a follow-up on Sunday to measure it again. By Sunday, he is not eating at all anymore. Not even the canned food. The Chief of Staff at the vet does another physical and notices that his spleen is enlarged and now he feels a mass. We are referred back to the Central TX Specialty Hospital vet who had diagnosed him with lymphoma this time last year, for an ultrasound and diagnosis.

We got him in for his ultrasound yesterday and the news was what we suspected. It was a miracle that the 6 months he was on heavy prednisone actually killed back all his previous lymphoma in his brain, eyes and liver... A miracle! Yet sadly, he now has a large amount of lymph nodes in his liver and spleen and the only treatment that will be effective at this point is chemo-therapy.

Now, if you had ever asked me prior to yesterday if I'd consider chemo-therapy for a pet, I'd have said: No way. However, the vet explained to us that it doesn't usually make the pet sick as it does with humans, because the goal isn't to kill the cancer, it can't be cured; but just to kill it back enough to make the pet feel better and give them a little more time. She told us that if it were her dog, she would do it. And, not only would it make him feel better, but if it doesn't work, or the cancer cells are unresponsive (this happens once the pet has already been treated with prednisone, as he was), we can stop at any time.

We needed no further convincing, we had him injected with his first chemo-therapy treatment and will be taking him in weekly for chemo for about 8 weeks initially, then once a month. She said that it usually extends life about 6 months to a year, but that a year for him is not realistic. He is also back on prednisone, for the initial part of the chemo.

We are doing surprisingly well. The truth is, we were told that he was going to die this time last year, and we spent months watching him on the prednisone, and preparing ourselves to lose him. His recovery was in one short word: miraculous. The fact that he has cancer again is just not surprising. And, he just isn't ready to die. He still wants to play, and go on car rides, and take walks. So, we will do this for him, until the chemo no longer makes him feel better. We have promised to Dakota that we will do right by him, and when he's ready to go, we'll let him.

That all being said. It really really still sucks. I know in my heart that I am so very lucky to have had this year with him, and that we are in a position financially that we can put other things on hold and make this work. But knowing his time is limited, and knowing that these really are his last days/months, still sucks all around. I go through waves where I am just angry. I want to shout at people who are inconveniencing me, MY DOG HAS CANCER AND IS GOING THROUGH CHEMO, FUCK OFF. I want to have a healthy attitude about all of this, focus on just being grateful, but I am still human, and it hurts. I worry about where we should have him put to sleep when the time comes, will it be at the vet or here at home; what will Tex do without him? Dakota is my first dog (I grew up with cats, a ferret, a hamster and some fish, but never had a dog), and the reason why I became so active in dog rescue. He has taught me just how amazing dogs are, they don't hold grudges, or have the capacity to cheat or be cruel, they just move on and live in the moment and love you unconditionally.

I am greedy. We have had this extra year, and yet at 10 years old, the journey together still feels too short.  He is my best buddy, and no matter how much we prepare, losing him is really going to hurt.

Top 5 "Can't Wait For" UF Books for October!

MORTAL TIES (Lupi #9) - Eileen Wilks
October 2nd
This continues to be one of the best shifter series out there, and it seriously distresses me that it's so underrated. If you like Urban Fantasy with romance and shifters, look no further, this series is top-notch. I love Lily and Rule! And the secondary characters are just as fantastic. Seriously, try this series if you haven't already, it's an auto-buy for me every time, and I am never disappointed.

FBI agent Lily Yu is living at Nokolai Clanhome with her fiancĂ©, lupi Rule Turner, when an intruder penetrates their territory, stealing the prototpye of a magical device the clan hopes will be worth a fortune--if a few bugs can be worked out . . .

But the protoytpe can be dangerously erratic, discharging a bizarre form of mind magic—and it looks like the thief wants it for that very side effect. Worse, whoever stole the device didn’t learn about it by accident. There’s a Nokolai traitor in their midst. Lily and Rule have to find the traitor, the thief, and the prototype. One job proves easy when the thief calls them--and his identity rocks Rule’s world.

As they race to recover their missing property, they find Robert Friar’s sticky footprints all over the place. Robert Friar--killer, madman, and acolyte of the Old One the lupi are at war with--an Old One whose power is almost as vast as her ambition to rock the entire world . . .

ICED (Fever World #1) - Karen Marie Moning
October 30th
OK so I am listing this book, but I am doing so reluctantly. I did not love Dani in the Fever series, and was not as thrilled with Shadowfever, the final Fever book, like everyone else was. That being said, I cannot deny being intrigued to return to the Dublin KMM has given us, and what the voice of a more mature Dani will be like.

The year is 1 AWC—After the Wall Crash. The Fae are free and hunting us. It’s a war zone out there, and no two days are alike. I’m Dani O’Malley, the chaos-filled streets of Dublin are my home, and there’s no place I’d rather be.

Dani “Mega” O’Malley plays by her own set of rules—and in a world overrun by Dark Fae, her biggest rule is: Do what it takes to survive. Possessing rare talents and the all-powerful Sword of Light, Dani is more than equipped for the task. In fact, she’s one of the rare humans who can defend themselves against the Unseelie. But now, amid the pandemonium, her greatest gifts have turned into serious liabilities.

Dani’s ex–best friend, MacKayla Lane, wants her dead, the terrifying Unseelie princes have put a price on her head, and Inspector Jayne, the head of the police force, is after her sword and will stop at nothing to get it. What’s more, people are being mysteriously frozen to death all over the city, encased on the spot in sub-zero, icy tableaux.

When Dublin’s most seductive nightclub gets blanketed in hoarfrost, Dani finds herself at the mercy of Ryodan, the club’s ruthless, immortal owner. He needs her quick wit and exceptional skill to figure out what’s freezing Fae and humans dead in their tracks—and Ryodan will do anything to ensure her compliance.

Dodging bullets, fangs, and fists, Dani must strike treacherous bargains and make desperate alliances to save her beloved Dublin—before everything and everyone in it gets iced.

THE SHATTERED DARK (McKenzie Lewis #2) - Sandy Williams
October 30th
I enjoyed the first book in this series, The Shadow Reader, though it had more of a YA feel than I usually prefer. That will not bother most people, but for me it was a deterrence; I require some adult content, if you please. That being said, I am still very interested and curious to see what this second book holds!

McKenzie was a normal college student, save for one little twist: she’s a shadow reader, someone who can both see the fae and track their movements between our world and the Realm. It’s a gift for which she has been called insane, one for which she has risked family and friends—and one that has now plunged her into a brutal civil war between the fae.

With the reign of the king and his vicious general at an end, McKenzie hoped to live a more normal life while exploring her new relationship with Aren, the rebel fae who has captured her heart. But when her best friend, Paige, disappears McKenzie knows her wish is, for now, just a dream. McKenzie is the only one who can rescue her friend, but if she’s not careful, her decisions could cost the lives of everyone she’s tried so hard to save.

FOURTH GRAVE BENEATH MY FEET (Charley Davidson #4) - Darynda Jones
October 30th
HELL YES, this needs no reasoning - it's freaking Charley Davidson, people. Fourth book is here! Reyesssssss.

Sometimes being the grim reaper really is that. Grim. And since Charley’s last case went so awry, she has taken a couple months off to wallow in the wonders of self-pity. But when a woman shows up on her doorstep convinced someone is trying to kill her, Charley has to force herself to rise above. Or at least get dressed. She quickly realizes something is amiss when everyone the woman knows swears she’s insane. The more they refute the woman’s story, the more Charley believes it.

In the meantime, the sexy, sultry son of Satan, Reyes Farrow, has been cleared of all charges. He is out of prison and out of Charley’s life, as per her wishes and several perfectly timed death threats. But his absence has put a serious crimp in her sex life. While there are other things to consider, like the fact that the city of Albuquerque has been taken hostage by an arsonist, Charley is having a difficult time staying away. Especially when it looks like Reyes may be involved. Just when life was returning to normal, Charley is thrust back into the world of crime, punishment, and the devil in blue jeans.

A TRACE OF MOONLIGHT (Abby Sinclair #3) - Allison Pang
October 30th
This is the finale of the Abby Sinclair trilogy, and I do think fans will be pleased. I went from really disliking Ion in the 2nd book, to loving him in this one. In fact, I was truly sad when I reached the end, it definitely leaves you wanting more! There is definitely potential in this book for more stories, too. I hope that happens.

Drinking from the waters of lethe and offering herself up as Faerie’s sacrificial Tithe . . . these just might be the least of Abby Sinclair’s problems.
Abby’s pact with a daemon—whether or not she remembers making it—is binding, so she’d better count herself lucky that (in the words of a daemon who knows better) there’s nearly always a loophole. But her friends’ reckless attempts to free her, well intentioned though they may be, set off a disastrous chain of events. In no time at all, Abby turns her incubus lover mortal, then gets herself killed, cursed, and married to an elven prince whose mother wants her dead. On top of everything else, she’s lost the Key to the CrossRoads to her mortal enemy, who promptly uses his restored power to wreak havoc on the OtherWorld and put its very existence in jeopardy. Only one person can make things right again, but to find her, Abby must place her trust in allies of mixed loyalties, and conquer her nightmares once and for all.

So I've shown you mine, you show me yours. What books are you most looking forward to in October?
